Kirsten Kluyts murder trial to start after several delays

The trial of a 22-year-old man accused of kidnapping and killing Johannesburg school teacher Kirsten Kluyts is expected to start on Tuesday in the High Court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni.

Bafana Mahungela was arrested after Kluyts’ body was found in Sandton in October 2023. He faces a string of charges, including kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances, murder and attempted rape.

Mahungela was arrested in November 2023 at a student residence in Parkmore after Kluyts’ body was found dumped on a jogging path in George Lea Park in Sandton in October 2023.

Kluyts had been participating in an athletic event on the day she was attacked and killed.
