King Protea dazzles as G20 logo and display at Summit

As the G20 Leaders’ Summit gets underway at Nasrec Expo Centre, in Soweto, the star of the Summit is South Africa’s national flower, the King Protea.

Bouquets of the King Protea, accompanied by fynbos and flora, took days of planning and arrangement.

Over 8 200 King Proteas were sourced from a local farmer for the G20 Summit.

The King Protea forms part of the Summit’s logo. The reason is that the King Protea has the ability to regenerate after fires, which mirrors the country’s spirit of renewal and hope.

The fynbos is a unique and diverse shrubland ecosystem in South Africa, found specifically in the Western and Eastern Cape provinces. It is known for its exceptional biodiversity and endemism.

The G20 Leaders’ Summit is taking place in South Africa, a first on the continent and will conclude tomorrow.
