Kimberley Stock Theft Unit recover goats worth R315 000

The Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit have recovered 114 of the 126 goats stolen at Klein Farm in Kimberley.

It is believed the goats were stolen after a padlock at their enclosure was broken.

Police say 19 goats were found on Griekwastad Road while 95 goats were discovered in Platfontein.

The estimated value of stolen goats is R315 000. Last month, a 25-year-old herdsman was found brutally murdered at a veld outside Kimberley.

Twnety Five goats he was looking after were stolen.

Police spokesperson Cherelle Ehlers says a manhunt for the suspects in both incidents is under way.

“It was reported that the complainant noticed that the padlock of the enclosure was believed to be broken and the goats had been stolen. Investigations led to the recovery of 19 goats with an estimated value of R47 000 on the Griekwastad Road outside Kimberley. Perseverance by the members resulted in the recovery of 95 goats with an estimated value of R237 000 near Platfontein on Monday, December 2.

The owner was informed and positively identified the tattoo markings on the goats. Investigations are continuing and no arrest has been made yet.”
