Crime Intelligence Head Dumisani Khumalo.
Crime Intelligence Head, Dumisani Khumalo is expected to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the criminal justice system.
The Ad Hoc Committee was set up after Kwazulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, made serious allegations implicating politicians, the judiciary and law enforcement officers in criminal activity in a media briefing in July six last year.
Khumalo’s testimony follows that of former acting National Police Commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane yesterday who told the Committee that political interference in the South African Police Service (SAPS) has been prevalent for a long time.
Lt-General Khumalo who is also the Project Manager for the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) , told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry last year that there is a criminal cartel known as the Big-five operating in South Africa.
He said the cartel was responsible for murders, drug-trafficking, kidnappings and other organised crimes.
He named attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe as some of the members of the cartel.
He was arrested with other police officers in June last year in connection with an unlawful appointment in Crime Intelligence.
