Khumalo defends appointment of former BMW engineer as a Brigadier

Crime Intelligence Head General Dumisani Khumalo has defended the decision by the unit to hire Dineo Mokwele, a former BMW mechanical engineer, as a Brigadier.

Mokwele’s appointment subsequently landed Khumalo in trouble and was charged alongside six other senior police officers in June this year.

The charges included the manipulation of recruitment processes to accommodate Mokwele.

Khumalo, who concluded his testimony at the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday, said Mokwele’s appointment was justified as she is the best suited candidate for the job.

“It’s a person who is qualified in mechatronics, a person who can combine electrical engineering and mechanical engineering to suit our covert operation needs. So those people are normally found in these environments.”

A new witness will take the stand Thursday morning.
