Commission Chair retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.
Two witnesses are on Monday expected to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry when it resumes its hearings in Pretoria.
The commission is probing allegations of criminality, corruption and political interference in the police and criminal justice system.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi made the allegations last year.
On the 6th of July, Mkhwanazi held a media briefing in which he accused senior police officials and top politicians of deliberately dismantling the task team probing political killings in the province.
Mkhwanazi alleged that the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) failed to investigate politically motivated killings claiming that top politicians, specifically naming Mchunu as government official protecting drug cartels and also disturbing police investigatiions, especially within the task team.

“The Madlanga Commission will today hold its first public hearing for 2026. Following the testimony in December last year of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu regarding the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team, the commissions hearing will continue with that theme and evidence related to political interference. Two new witnesses are due to take the stand today.”
