Kenyan govt censors broadcast of protestors in the capital, Nairobi

The Kenyan government has ordered television and radio stations in the country not to broadcast the current protests which are ongoing in the capital, Nairobi.

Protestors turned out in their numbers to mark the anniversary of the storming of Parliament last year which was sparked by the introduction of a tax bill.

More than 60 people lost their lives as they protested against President William Ruto’s administration’s introduction of the tax bill.

Earlier this month, Kenyans went back to the streets after 31-year-old social media blogger, Albert Ojwang was killed in police custody.

He was accused of defaming the police chief on social media.

Six people, including three police officers, were charged with his murder.

The death of Ojwang has become a lightning rod for Kenyans who are still mourning the deaths of those killed during last year’s demonstrations and who are blaming security forces for the fatalities and dozens of unexplained abductions.
