The accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Lead investigating officer Brigadier Bongani Gininda has revealed that Kelly Khumalo is the sixth suspect in the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Brigadier Gininda says they were ready to charge Khumalo back in 2020, however, he applied for a warrant of arrest, and it was not authorised.
The Bafana Bafana Captain was shot and killed while at former girlfriend Khumalo’s parental home in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand.
Five men are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the murder of Meyiwa.
Defence counsel Sipho Ramosepele asked Gininda why only five people sit in court when he says six suspects actively participated in the murder of the soccer captain.
Ramosele: Currently, we have standing and sitting before this court five accused persons. And in the statement, it says six people actively participated in the planning and execution. Who is the 6th suspect?
Gininda: It’s Miss Kelly Khumalo my Lord. Remember with this statement I was applying for the warrant of arrest for Miss Kelly Khumalo. So, she would have been the sixth suspect. These ones they had already made their first appearance, it was November, so I was moving towards Miss Kelly Khumalo to be added.
Brigadier Gininda is expected back on the stand on Wednesday.
