Residents of Kariega protest outside court.
Scores of residents have staged a protest outside the Kariega Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape demanding justice.
This as eight suspects between the ages of 16 and 27 years are appearing in the local court in connection with the murder of two teenage girls.
The charred bodies of the two teen schoolgirls were found near a boundary with the Nyosi Wildlife Reserve in Kariega last week.
Community leader Thamsanqa Nkevu says they want to see justice served and the culprits must be put behind bars.
“What we are saying is that we are feeling very, very bad because we thought the first appearance of the suspects was going to be at Kwa-Nobuhle. But we are very said that the court has decided to move the hearing to the regional court. Because we wanted to voice our concerns on this issue. And there are also underlying issues of age. And how age might impact the outcome of this hearing. So, as the community we felt we need to come together to demand the justice that we deserve.”
