The Junior Springboks lost 48-45 to New Zealand in the final round of the Under-20 Rugby Championship at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
New Zealand scored eight tries to South Africa’s seven to defend their Under-20 title in a high-scoring match. The Junior Boks held a narrow 26-24 lead at halftime but were ultimately edged out in the closing stages.
Earlier in the tournament, South Africa secured a win over Argentina and suffered a defeat to Australia. They finished third overall in the championship.
