June Steenkamp, the mother of the late Reeva Steenkamp, suffered a stroke on Monday and is currently recovering in hospital.
The Steenkamp family fell under the global spotlight in 2013 when Reeva was shot dead by her boyfriend, Paralympian Oscar Pistorius.
June’s husband, Barry, also died two years ago of natural causes.
Her friend and CEO of the Reeva Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation, Tania Koen, says she has been in poor health prior to this setback.
“She is currently in a government hospital where she is being taken care of. She will unfortunately need extensive rehabilitation, and we have established a fund which enables us to put June in a private facility. So, she will have the best possible chance of a recovery.”
