1 minute

Judgment in the long-running case of rape-accused Pastor Timothy Omotoso and two co-accused is expected to be delivered in the Gqeberha High Court in the Eastern Cape today.

Omotoso was arrested at the Dawid Stuurman Airport eight years ago and has been in custody since.

The two co-accused, Lusanda Solani and Zukiswa Sitho, have been out on R2 000 bail each.

They face more than 30 charges that include rape, human trafficking, and racketeering.

Presiding Judge Irma Schoeman will deliver the judgment today after Omotoso has been in custody since his arrest in 2017 and applied twice to be granted bail – to no prevail.

The trial comes to a close after it was restarted following the recusal of Judge Mandela Makaula.

The initial prosecutor in the matter, advocate Nceba Ntelwa, was also replaced during the trial.

During the trial, the defence also managed to have 31 charges dropped against the accused due to insufficient evidence.
