Johannesburg Water to go ahead with water throttling from tonight

Johannesburg Water will start implementing water throttling from 9 o’clock tonight until 4 AM on Friday. This is part of measures taken to improve water levels at reservoirs.

Johannesburg has seen increasing water supply disruptions due to illegal water connections, ageing infrastructure, poor maintenance and leakages.

Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina has, however, assured South Africans that the country is not running out of water.

“Johannesburg Water presented the measures which are implementable, which include amongst others, throttling of water supply between 9 pm and 4 am, to enable reservoir levels to recover overnight. The city intends to implement this continuously from 14 November until the system has fully recovered,” says Majodina.
