American Johannes Veerman won his second DP World Tour event of his career when he swooped in to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge by one stroke at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City.

Veerman played a steady final round for 3 under 69.

He hit six birdies and 3 bogeys and finished on 5 under par for the tournament.

What he had done was put pressure on 20-year-old Aldrich Potgieter, who was the overnight leader, and touted to be South Africa’s next big-time golfer.

Potgieter put together a final round of 3 over par 75, which included a triple and double bogey and two bogeys at the 16th and 18th holes to finish, as he had tried to force a play-off with Veerman.

Potgieter finished on 4 under par, in a three-way tie for second place alongside England’s Matthew Jordan and Romain Langasque of France.
