Johannesburg Water will undergo planned maintenance at the Hector Norris pump station from Friday until next Monday.
The water utility says this is aimed at improving infrastructure for sustainable water supply.
The affected areas include the Johannesburg CBD, Newtown, Jeppestown, Doorfontein and Mellville.
Johannesburg Water Spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala is urging residents to use water sparingly.
“Residents will be impacted by low pressure to no water for the duration of the maintenance while alternative water supply will be provided residents are also urged to store water in preparation,” says Shabalala.
Residents of White River in Mpumalanga are claiming that the water supplied by the embattled City of Mbombela is dirty and smelly.
The residents accuse the municipality of failing to replace the deteriorated asbestos water pipes among others.
White River Rate Payers Association Chairperson Johan Heymans says they are forced to buy water for domestic use.
“Our people can’t wash their clothes, our people can’t bath people, (they) have to replace school clothes continuously, because once it stains it doesn’t get out. We have taken five sample in White River and we are going to make those results public. We want the council to be accountable. We pay rate and taxes very highly,” says Heymans.
