Joburg Uber users urged to find alternative transport amid shutdown

Uber e-hailing service users in Johannesburg should organise alternative transport as drivers plan a shutdown on Tuesday.

The drivers are expected to gather in Kramerville before marching to the e-hailing company’s headquarters in Parktown.

They say they are unhappy about issues including changes to Uber’s commission percentages and unprofitable fares.

Driver Awelani Mashete says they will continue with their action until their demands are met.

Mashete says, “As the Uber drivers, we will continue with the strike until they have answered our demand, so we until hear our grievances, which is the price. We are not fighting for many things, but we are only fighting for a price.”
