Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina says the City of Johannesburg will increase the number of repair and maintenance teams with an estimated turnaround time of 24 to 48 hours in an effort to improve the response to leak repairs and burst pipes.
She made the announcement during a media conference yesterday.
As part of the City’s interventions to addressing the water crisis, Majodina said Johannesburg will be throttling water from 9pm until 4am starting this Thursday.
She says, “Procurement of a panel of contractors for emergency repairs of large diameter pipe leaks, as well as increasing the number of teams on standby during the week to attend the leaks and bursts even during weekends. Increasing the number of truck available to ease leak repair and maintenance teams. To implement the cut-offs of illegal connections in key informal settlements.”
