Joburg motorists urged to exercise caution amid severe thunderstorms

The Johannesburg Emergency Services has urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads. This comes as severe thunderstorms continue to lash most parts of Johannesburg on Saturday.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has also issued a yellow Level One warning of heavy downpours that may lead to localised flooding this weekend.

Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says they remain on high alert for any emergencies. Malaudzi says severe thunderstorms are expected to cause some flash floods in most low-lying areas.

“Our residents are urged to avoid crossing river streams while conducting their daily activities. Our motorists who are driving in and around to exercise caution, practice safe following distance, avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges,” adds Malaudzi.
