Joburg EMS on high alert as rain persist

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) officials are keeping a close eye on low lying areas and have warned communities to ensure that they’re safe at all times amid expectations of more rain.

Residents are urged to stay safe. Joburg EMS Spokesperson Nana Radebe says people should report any major emergencies.

“Seeing that it’s been raining continuously within these three days we’ve been very lucky that we’ve not received any major incidents. We however, still are urging drivers to report any flooded roads because we know that there are high alert areas within the low lying areas in the Juskei river in Alexander and we have also roads that usually flood around this time. So we still say people must take precautions and ensure that they report in case of any major emergencies. The people that live next to the rivers are at high risk, so we would recommend that they move higher up to be safe.”
