Johannesburg Metro Police say they have arrested 240 motorists for drunk driving since the start of their Easter law enforcement operations. JMPD also says there were three fatalities reported involving pedestrians and a passenger during the Easter long weekend.

Joburg Metro police spokesperson, Xolani Fihla has urged motorists to avoid drinking and driving and for pedestrians to stay visible and keep off freeways.
“Many tourists are preparing their return journeys, the JMPD urges everyone to exercise maximum patience and caution and reiterates that drinking and driving will not be tolerated. Our officers will continue to effect arrests without hesitation. Pedestrians must ensure that they are visible at all times and refrain from walking on freeways. Speeding and reckless driving will be met with the full might of the law. Our officers remain deployed across all regions to ensure that the remainder of the Easter period is managed safely.”
