Jhb residents asked to monitor weather when using rivers for rituals

City of Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) is urging residents to monitor the weather before embarking on rituals and ceremonies in streams.

EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo says, with summer upon us, the city is prone to experiencing an increased number of drownings.

This is due to children swimming unsupervised and residents performing cleansing rituals and ceremonies in rivers.

“In summer time, the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services conducts a water safety campaign. This campaign is aimed at educating the residents of Johannesburg about water safety. EMS continues to urge the residents of Johannesburg to ensure that they check the weather before embarking on any ceremonies.”
