Victims of the 11 September 2022 mine dam wall collapse in Jagerfontein, Free State, say this day brings back the memory of the trauma and tragic loss of their livelihood, their belongings and loved ones.
This day marks three years since the tragic mine collapse, and the community is gathered at Middlebare Combined School to commemorate the mine dam wall burst.

The disaster left many families displaced and it damaged infrastructure. To date about 90 families opted to have the mine rebuilt and moved into their renovated homes since 2024. Meanwhile, 26 others victims took the legal route to claim compensation through the Free State High Court.
