Intensified law enforcement operations in Villeria and Silverton, east of Pretoria, have resulted in numerous arrests, this weekend. Among those arrested were undocumented immigrants and those involved in unlicensed liquor sales and drug peddlers.
Police spokesperson Johan van Dyk says the operations are part of efforts to combat crime, improve safety, and enforce by-laws in and around the city.
“With this operation, 514 persons and 233 vehicles were searched. 67 illegal immigrants were arrested and are being processed for deportation. 21 hotspots were patrolled, with several stop-and-search operations conducted, resulting in the arrest of six persons for possession of various drugs,” says van Dyk.

He says that 28 administrative infringement notices were issued, totaling R16 250, with 9 persons arrested for drunk-driving.
“Five persons were arrested and fined for drinking in public, while three persons were fined for urinating in public,” he adds.
Crime on drug
Meanwhile, police operations across Cape Town have led to multiple drug-related arrests. Officers confiscated crystal meth, mandrax, ecstasy and cocaine in Valhalla Park, Belhar, and Gugulethu, on the Cape Flats.
Four suspects have been arrested, with one also facing charges for the possession of an imitation firearm.
Police say the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
