Inquiry into TRC cases requests for Amnesty Committee’s material

The Commission of Inquiry into Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) cases has issued a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa to furnish them with any material related to cases referred by the Amnesty Committee of the Commission for investigation or prosecution.

Letters have also been sent to Ramaphosa’s predecessors, Ministers of Police and Justice, as well as national police commissioners, amongst others.

The officials have been requested to provide, in the form of an affidavit, their account of any discussions, decisions or considerations during their tenure.

The TRC says this will assist them in understanding the context in which decisions relating to the inquiry cases were made.

The commission will begin its public hearings in November.
