India thump Proteas in first T20


The South African cricket team’s preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup in India in February, have gotten off to an unpromising start.

India thumped the Proteas by 101 runs in the first of five T20 Internationals in Cuttack on Tuesday evening.

The hosts were sent in and scored 175 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya produced the match winning innings, scoring an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls.

South Africa who are still in search of the right combinations in the shortest format of the game, were woeful in reply and were bowled out for 74 inside 13 overs.

Dewald Brevis’ 22 was the highest score.

The second match of the series is on Thursday in Chandigarh.
