Illegally connected Eskom customers also urged to update metre boxes

Eskom has urged customers whose metres have been bypassed or connected illegally to go to legal vendors and buy electricity before they come to Eskom offices.

The power utility says this will help ease the burden of long queues and help Eskom speed up the metre upgrade process.

Eskom has given South Africans up until tomorrow to upgrade their prepaid electricity metres.

Eskom spokesperson, Daphney Mokwena says those who have bypassed metres can visit Eskom from Monday with their purchased tokens and will still be assisted.

“If I haven’t been buying electricity for the past six months or so … what we find is that it’s most of the customers that are in the queue. So, we are saying don’t queue and waste your time. Go to a registered vendor and buy electricity. Get that slip that will enable you to update your metre. Once you have done that you can come visit Eskom again from Monday,” says Mokwena.
