The Inkatha Freedon Party (IFP) has called on Parliament to urgently improve the protection of its members.
This follows the killing of IFP MP and Deputy Chief Whip, Khethamabala Sithole.
He was shot dead in Katlehong on the East Rand on Saturday.
The motive for the attack is yet to be established.
The party’s NEC member and Gauteng Secretary, Alderman Ngobese is in hospital after being shot and wounded in the same incident.
Ngobese says, “We were having a political programme in the hostel which is Ward 59 in the City of Ekurhuleni to inaugurate a branch. We were standing just outside a marque when we were attacked by an unknown gunman who just appeared from nowhere and just started shooting at us. We hope that the law enforcement agencies will be able to investigate and apprehend the perpetrators.”
