IFASA condemns newly signed Land Expropriation Act

1 minute

Advocacy group, the Indigenous First Nation Advocacy South Africa, has strongly condemned the newly signed Land Expropriation Act.

It has described the Act as a devastating blow to the land restitution rights of the indigenous San and Khoi people.

The advocacy group believes the Act prioritises cheap reconciliation over justice, marginalising already vulnerable communities.

The advocacy group’s Executive Director Phillip Williams says land expropriation without compensation cannot be talked about without fixing the structural issues within the institution of the country.

“Section 25, subsection 7 of the Constitution bars or keeps the indigenous San and Khoi community outside of claiming land because it explicitly says that you cannot claim land which you have lost, before 1913 this is criminal.”
