The Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) has postponed the case of area manager of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Musawenkosi Mnikathi accused of transporting election material without being escorted by police during the general elections on the 29th of May.

Members of the MK Party, who laid the complaint against Mnikathi, attended the case yesterday.

Defence advocate Ashleigh Jennings says the case was postponed because the prosecutor is sick.

“What is happening today is that we came back and we have got electricity and we have water, but we don’t have a prosecutor. So, the matter has been adjourned to the 26th (of November) so that our application can be dealt with. After that I hope I we will be able to give you a full interview but at the moment, I cannot say much because the matter is still in court.”

MK Party spokesperson for the Moses Mabhida region, Carry Ngcobo, has expressed their frustrations over the delays.

“As MK, we are so quite frustrated that each time when the verdict has to be issued, there is something that delays the process and that is why we are so frustrated. We believe that the outcome of this case will have a huge impact, especially on the fact that when we stated that we were robbed and our votes were rigged after the general election in May 2024, it was as if we were just pulling strings. So, this case will definitely prove that and they are just having delaying tactics to run away from that fact.”
