IDAC confirms probe into ‘Cat’ Matlala

The Head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) Advocate Andrea Johnson has confirmed that they are currently investigating Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

Johnson said this before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi during a media briefing in July.

Johnson says the charges against Matlala came to their attention sometime early this year.

“So, the first and the only time we are looking at investigations against Matlala when it relates to the R360 million tender that was awarded and subsequently cancelled sometime this year. So there have not been criminal investigations into him as a service provider.”

“There have been investigations against SAPS members and other service providers where the supply chain management processes were circumvented and corruption also or fraud or PFMA [Public Finance Management Act] contraventions took place. So, in February of this year, was the first time that we got a referral for Mr Matlala as a potential suspect,” adds Johnson.
