The mother of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and stabbed to death on New Year’s Day says she will remember her daughter as a bubbly and friendly child. The little girl’s lifeless body was found in the bushes in Duduza on Gauteng’s East Rand.

An inquest docket of rape and murder has since been opened.

The mother hopes that justice will prevail.

“When I arrived there, I found my daughter laying helplessly. That is when I broke down. My child was very bubbly and friendly. She was always happy and not a naughty child. The suspected person was taken for questioning by the police, but he later came back,” she says.

Residents in Duduza on Gauteng’s East Rand say they are relying on the law to take its course following the death of a five-year old girl in the area. The little girl was allegedly raped and stabbed to death on New Year’s Day. Her lifeless body was found in bushes in the area.

One of the residents, Themba Sibeko, says, “It becomes very difficult for our children to go and play outside, just because we have monsters who are waiting to do such things. So, it’s very frustrating, it’s very disappointing and the sad part is that it happened under our nose.  We can’t be dealing with people who have self-hate and then go to people that they cannot fight for themselves.”
