Hosi Phylia N’wamitwa II receives official provincial funeral


President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded Hosi Phylia N’wamitwa the Second a Category two official provincial funeral.  

Hosi N’wamitwa the Second of the Valoyi clan outside Tzaneen, Limpopo, died last week after an illness. 

She is the first female among the Vatsonga/Machangana to ascend to the throne on which she has been since August 2008.  This after challenging the patriarchal system in the Constitutional Court.  

Hosi N’wamitwa the Second will be buried at N’wamitwa on Sunday.  

Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has welcomed the President’s decision. Premier’s spokesperson Thilivhali Muavha says the national flag will be flown at half-mast across Limpopo Province. 

“Premier Ramathuba described Hosi N’Wamitwa II as a towering figure whose life was defined by courage, leadership and service to the people. In line with Official Funeral protocol, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across Limpopo Province in honour of the late Hosi N’Wamitwa II.” 

African National Congress (ANC) extends its heartfelt condolences to the Valoyi Royal House and the people of Limpopo. In a statement, the ANC describes N’wamitwa II as a “courageous pioneer, a servant of the people and a symbol of transformative leadership.”

“Her ascension to the Valoyi royal throne was a decisive break with centuries of patriarchal exclusion , affirming the principle that culture and tradition must evolve i, justice and the dignity of women a step of equality.”
