The Home Affairs Department says it will extend operating hours at its offices from Monday 8 December to 19 December 2025, and again on the 5th to the 16th of January 2026.
The department says the operating hours will be extended by two hours, meaning that the offices will now close at six o’clock in the evening.
It also says the extended services will only be available at offices equipped to process Smart ID Cards and passports.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber urges members of the public to book before visiting the offices.
“We are positioning Home Affairs to deliver dignity for all. Our officials will be on the front lines working extra hours to ensure that South Africans are able to travel and spend precious time over the festive season with friends and family.”
