The Department of Home Affairs has detained Anabela Rungo, the mother of model Chidimma Adetshina, in Cape Town. Adetshina, who had entered the Miss South Africa pageant but later withdrew, also won Miss Universe Nigeria last year.

Investigators from the Department of Home Affairs, with the support of the South African Police, detained Rungo at a property in Cape Town.

According to a statement, Rungo’s South African documentation was withdrawn in September of last year after it was found to have been fraudulently obtained, making her ineligible to stay in the country.

The Department claims that Rungo has since circumvented her “undesirable” status by using a Mozambican passport.

During the operation, investigators from the Counter Corruption and Immigration Services discovered that Adetshina’s under-aged child was residing with Rungo. Rungo will be handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) as she is also under investigation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.
