Emergency services have cordoned off the scene. It is believed that it was set alight by protesters who are unhappy about recent evictions from flats in the area and are demanding to be allowed to move back without paying rent.
City of Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Spokesperson, William Ntladi, says that firefighters have arrived on the scene and the actual cause of the fire is undetermined yet.
“Resources are here, multiple stations with multiple vehicles, and a number of firefighters are on site. President Street and Jack Street are closed to traffic and all the buildings nearby have been closed for safety operational purposes. So far, no casualties have been reported, and the actual cause of the fire is still undetermined.”
