Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says Brian Hlongwa’s legacy cannot be overshadowed by the allegations of corruption that were brought against him.
At the time of his death, Hlongwa was facing corruption and money laundering charges from irregular contracts during his tenure as Health MEC between 2006-2009.
The trial was set to begin in April 2026.
Speaking ahead of Hlongwa’s funeral service at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg in Johannesburg, Nkomo-Ralehoko says the late Health MEC was one of the best leaders in the African National Congress (ANC).
“He was performing extremely well. The work that he did can be overshadowed by one or two things that has happened, but I am happy that he never despaired, he was never diverted by any issue that came in front of his way,” adds Nkomo-Ralehoko.
