High Court sitting in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
Hitman Sabelo Phewa has been handed a life sentence at the Durban High Court in KwaZulu-Natal for the murder of former Richmond municipal manager, Sibusiso Sithole.
Sithole was killed in 2017 on his way to a council meeting over fraud and corruption he was investigating.
Apart from Sithole’s murder, Phewa was also given a life term for the murder of Amos Ngcobo, which also took place in 2017.
Judge Rithy Singh said Phewa has shown no remorse and has blatant disregard for human life.
He was also sentenced to five years imprisonment for attempted murder and handed another 15 years for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
