Hiring of Seta board chairpersons will be transparent: Manamela

Higher Education Minister, Buti Manamela, says they will ensure there is credibility in the appointment process of the chairpersons of the Sector Education and Training Authorities (Seta) boards.

This follows the axing of former minister, Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, who was embroiled in controversy over the appointment of the Seta boards.

Addressing the media in Pretoria today Manamela said the appointment process will be transparent.

“Nominations have since been closed. The department team says the nominations have been closed for chairpersons. They are looking through those nominations to see who best meets the criteria out of the nominations. We will then apply our minds in terms of who fits. We are going to make sure people have the skills and the capacity to preside as chairpersons of the Seta boards. That is, for us the most important criteria. We are quite considerate of the fact the public will be looking at this closely and we will not hide anything,” says Manamela.
