The High Court in Polokwane, Limpopo, has ruled that Queen Manyaku Thulare must be the Bapedi acting queen, pending a ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal.

In the ruling, Limpopo Premier’s Office, and some members of the royal council have been cited as the respondents.

A section of the royal council had been opposing her appointment, following the death of her son Thulare Victor Thulare the third three years ago.

The court has also ordered the government to restore benefits and allowances attached to the office of Bapedi kingship.

The appeal will be heard in March next year.

The office of the premier and other respondents are yet to comment.

The Queen’s Spokesperson, Makgwane Ratau says, “The court order reaffirms and confirms and reassures that the decisions and the processes which were undertaken to appoint her majesty Queen Manyakabatho Thulare Lehane The Second was indeed the correct decision. So ours is just to accept and make sure as a nation we unite behind her leadership, it’s our wish that the entire nation rally behind the leadership of her majesty – so the unity of Bapedi nation is very important.”
