Hawks probe R32 mln to upgrade unfinished Mdantsane swimming pool

Residents of Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape have welcomed the decision by the Hawks to investigate allegations of fraud and corruption in the refurbishment of the Mdantsane swimming pool.

To date, more than R32 million has been spent on refurbishing the facility, yet it remains in a deplorable state.

Last month the Hawks conducted a search and seizure operation at the Supply Chain offices of the Buffalo City Metro.

The Metro’s spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya says they are conducting their own investigation into the matter.

“Clearly, there has been some wrongdoing from the side of us as officials and also from the project manager in terms of service providers. Anyone who has been found to have been on the wrong side of the law should be taken into account. From our side, we are working around the clock with the new report that has been tabled to Council while on the other side, the investigations are continuing.”
