The High Court in the Northern Cape has granted the Hawks’ Assets Forfeiture Unit a R1.6 million forfeiture order against businessman Mahdi Aki.

In January last year, police had conducted a search at Aki’s residence. They found two bags full of money that he could not account for.

Hawks provincial spokesperson, Tebogo Thebe says, “Northern Cape division of the High Court granted Hawks asset forfeiture investigation and National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) asset forfeiture a forfeiture order worth R1.6 million against 51-year-old Mr Mahdi Aki.

The order came after the police conducted a search and seizure at Mahdi’s home, found two bags of an undisclosed amount of money. The accused could not account for the money, and it was seized by the police.”
