Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga (R) chairs the commission established to probe criminality, political inference and corruption in the criminal justice system in Pretoria.
Witness A has testified at the Madlanga Commission that he found it strange that a Hawks member wanted “a case number” when Organised Crime detectives led an operation at Katiso “KT” Molefe’s home.
Molefe was arrested in December 2024 after he was linked to the murder of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart.
Witness A has further stated that a traffic police helicopter was hovering low over Molefe’s Sandhurst home in Johannesburg the day he was arrested.
“Can we get protection? Because on that one, I really asked for protection to say, I think we’ll have a problem here. Can we maybe have reinforcement? I understand that we had TRT that we were with, that were giving us protection and protecting the scene and all that. But now seeing a helicopter above, you can see now you are going to be outnumbered because these people are now airborne.”
Witness A has told the commission that organised crime detectives, working with the tactical response team, were met with resistance when they went to arrest Molefe at his house.
“Now they gave us a call to say we are being surrounded by a person who is armed with a firearm, and he is with the suspect. And they also told us at some point that there is a person who is an officer, a JMPD officer, that came. So, I was not personally confronted with that situation. It was a situation that was reported to us and made us to rush very quickly from where we were at the time so that situation that side could not escalate.”
