Harrison says she learned of PKTT disbandment on social media

KwaZulu-Natal Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Elaine Harrison says that she first heard of the disbandment of the Political Killing Task Team (PKTT) on social media.

She has been giving evidence at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry sitting in Pretoria.

Harrison says that the task team is necessary.

She has also talked about the frustration of not having official confirmation on whether the team was disbanded or not.

Harrison has also shared with the Madlanga Commission her deep concerns over a lack of clarity on the disbandment of the task team.

She has also warned of the possibility of political violence during next year’s local government elections.

Harrison says that her concern is based on reports of a letter containing the instruction of the embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu to disband the KwaZulu-Natal political killings task team in 2024.
