Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube will outline measures to tighten matric exam security at a briefing in Pretoria on Friday.
She’s expected to release interim findings from the investigation into the 2025 exam leak, which led to the suspension of two officials accused of stealing papers and a memo.
26 candidates from seven Pretoria schools allegedly accessed leaked papers in English, Maths, and Physical Science.
The scandal has sparked outrage, Education Activist Hendrick Makaneta previously called it a betrayal of learners.
While the Freedom Front Plus said it erodes trust in the public education system.
The department’s spokesperson Terence Khala says that the briefing forms part of the department’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of the integrity as well as credibility of the national senior certificate examinations.
“Minister will host the media briefing to formally release the findings of the interim report of the National Investigative Task Team, into the recent examination breach. The briefing is set to see the minister outline the findings of the investigation, the key recommendations as well as the department’s intended actions to strengthen the examination security and upload public confidence in the examination system.”
