Minister handing over the classrooms
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has handed over three recently built classrooms to the Boschrand Primary School in Msholozi, near White River in Mpumalanga.
Gwarube visited the area as part of celebrating International Mandela Day.
During her back-to-school campaign in January this year, a group of residents gathered outside the school gate and demanded more classrooms.
Minister Gwarube says the private sector has played a significant role to assist them in rapidly addressing the need for extra classrooms.
“But what this, for me, demonstrates is that when government partners with civil society, but also partners with business, that we can make an impact. And that, for me, is what Mandela Day is about. It is about what can you do in service of others. And these partners of ours will come on board, and say we’ll pick up our hand, we will do what we can to alleviate the pressure that this community faces”
