Gwamanda back in court on fraud charges

The case of former Johannesburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda and a co-accused will resume in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto today.

Gwamanda is facing charges of fraud.

This comes after he allegedly defrauded Soweto residents in a funeral policy scheme.

It is reported that some of his alleged victims opened a case last year.

Gwamanda handed himself over to police in October last year.

The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) investigation revealed that the Al Jama-ah councillor allegedly operated an illegal business in 2012.

Last year, the case against Gwamanda and his co-accused was postponed for disclosure and trial certificates.

His defence lawyer, Gregory Armstrong, maintains that the allegations against his clients are false and they will be waiting for the state to disclose their dockets.
