SATAWU members marching on the streets of Polokwane demanding that the employer, the Great North Transport pay workers their pension funds, May 28.
Executives, including the Chief Executive Officer of the Limpopo government owned bus company, Great North Transport, have been suspended with immediate effect.
The decision was taken by a board of directors in a meeting held in Polokwane after management failed to pay workers’ medical aid contributions and pension contributions for six months.
The money was however deducted from the workers’ salaries.

Economic Development Department spokesperson Patrick Monkoe says the resolution was taken in response to concerns related to financial governance, operational delivery and executive accountability.
“During this period, the board is engaging the shareholder, the Limpopo Economic Development Agency, to provide strategic and operational support, including the secondment of interim leadership resources to ensure the continued delivery of essential public transport services,” says Monkoe.
