E-hailing services in Gqeberha have embarked on a shutdown in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Drivers marched to the city hall, joining a national awareness campaign led by the National E-Hailing Federation of South Africa (NEFSA).
General Secretary of the Eastern Cape E-hailing Association, Mfundiso Gama, says the shutdown forms part of their mobilisation efforts to highlight safety concerns, unfair pricing, poor earnings, and ongoing disputes with e-hailing companies.
“We wish they can increase their prices because there are trips that are less than a litre of petrol, a trip for R19,99 is even less than a rate of petrol for you to go and refill again. That’s one of the things we are wishing to come out of this and then we are wishing for better conflict resolution.”
