Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson speaking in Parliament.
The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Dean MacPherson says they are working on ensuring that the Expropriation Bill does not harm South Africans.
Speaking at a panel discussion on the implications of the Expropriation Bill held at NAMPO Park in Bothaville in the Free State, MacPherson debunked claims of land confiscation and genocide of white farmers.
The Expropriation Bill, which was recently enacted, has sparked contention in the country.
With 49 Afrikaners seeking refuge in the US, MacPherson says the bill is meant to redress inequality and land ownership issues.
“We are working to find our way through some of the challenges that have been raised in court,” says Macpherson.
“We also had a discussion around the stability of agricultural sector and how we as a department can contributed to that by resolving the outstanding or disputed issues within the act.
So that we can get on with providing that clarity to farmers and actually showing them that the Expropriation Bill is about dealing with the issues of national infrastructure,” adds the minister.
