Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi speaks at the National ICT Policy Colloquium in Pretoria on October 17, 2025.
Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi has signalled the government’s readiness to engage on key reforms in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector to create policy certainty that encourages private sector investment.
He is hosting a policy colloquium in Pretoria, bringing together industry leaders, regulators, academia and civil society.
The talks come as the department grapples with several policy processes, including the South African Broadcasting Corporation funding model that could shape the trajectory of the sector for years to come.
Malatsi assures stakeholders that the government was approaching the discussions with clear intent and purpose.
“Many of you whom I’ve spoken to since beginning this journey have expressed the need for truly meaningful engagement and involvement in playing a role towards this sector and how, from a policy perspective, we can stay in the right direction.”
“I know because often the government convinces these gatherings that there may be some skepticism because many of you have participated in engagements probably similar like this before that may have not led to the action that you thought it would lead to,” the Minister explains.
Malatsi adds, “I want to assure you that from our side we are approaching today with an intent and purpose and that is to ensure that our responsibility is to prove through the actions that we take that we can lead to genuine intervention and transformation of this sector through the actions that we will take.”
